What is Kotahitanga?

Kotahitanga can be translated into words like: Kotahitanga in a historical sense is known as a Maori political movement that tried to unify Maori people in a non-tribal way.

One of the first Kotahitanga movements in New Zealand was the Treaty of Waitangi which brought Maori tribes together to take collective action.

Another historical movement of Kotahitanga happened during the Second World War where the Maori war effort organisation was formed to recruit New Zealand soldiers for the war as a part of the Maori battalion.
