Tigers also known as the Panthera tigris (scientific name) weigh around 220-660 pounds (99-299 kilograms), they can reach lengths up to 6-10 feet and usually live in tropical rainforests, evergreen forests temperate forests, mangrove swamps, grasslands and savannas. These Carnivores hunt for their prey, their diet may consist of deer, boar, rabbits, fish, rodents, and sometimes bears. They tend to rely on their sight and sound instead of their smell when they hunt, they also like to hunt alone. The average number of cubs that tigers give birth to are typically two to four cubs every two years. However, if all of the cubs in one litter die, they are able to produce a second litter within five months. Tigers have a life span of 20 years, they gain independence at around 2 years of age.
As of June 7, 2018, there are only 3,890 estimated in the world but it will soon become less if we keep letting them go extinct. Some of the main reasons the tiger population is decreasing are illegal hunting for their pelts, meat and body parts used for folk medicine, habitat loss that is caused by logging and other forms of forestation. The most endangered tiger species is the Sumatran tiger. There are only about 400 of them left in the wild or maybe less. They’re extremely endangered because of deforestation and illegal logging that is destroying their habitats.
