Know someone going through depression?
Don't let them go through it alone. It's a serious condition.
Here's how to help:
- Be gentle and be a compassionate listener.
Listening and your presence sometimes is more important than giving advice
- Approach them gently about it?
"I have been concerned about you lately." "Is everything alright?" "I want to check in with you on how you're feeling."
- Ask questions softly
"When did you start feeling this way?" "What made you feel this way?" "How can I support you?"
- Let them know you're there and be there for them
"If you need to talk some more, I'm here." And when they do want to chat, if possible be available and present in the conversation
- Encourage them to contact the services above
- Pay attention to the signs they are showing and whether they are SUICIDAL
If suicidal get help for them immediately.
View the signs they are showing depression to be sure on the 'What's it about?' page. Sometimes people with depression don't often show it so if you feel they're down despite not showing symptoms, check in with them anyway.
