IN OUR COMMUNITY

OUR COMMUNITY & ENVIRONMENT

We do not always have to consider large scale changes or improvements when it comes to the environment!

Sometimes we have to start small - sometimes the biggest differences are within are community

Currently, this page only has events and initiatives within Auckland - but don't be afraid to start or find events like this in your own area!

It can be an awesome way to make friends and make a GIANT impact on our world

Here, you can also find some ideas to start within your own schools!

  • Auckland Council is forming a climate change action plan and they need YOUR input, as the future generation, you can have your say on what we can do to protect our earth. Share your ideas and hear others on climateAKL.co.nz
  • The first food waste collection service has started recently in Papakura. Each household is encouraged to sepearate their food from the general waste - as these products can be collected and processed to compost. This compost will then be given back to community groups.

SCHOOL INITIATIVES

IDEAS FOR SCHOOL INITIATIVES

  • Organise a waste audit within your school! This way you can find out the biggest waste villains in your school and combat that directly!
  • Organise a community clean-up within your school! You could do a clean-up at a local park, walkway or garden!
  • You could create a beeswax wrap making session! This way students have a cleaner alternative to glad wraps or tin foil!
  • Start up a lunch time planting session! Students can volunteer to plant trees within your school - these trees could even be fruit trees!
  • If your school doesn't have one already - you could petition to start up a proper waste system within your school: examples could include a worm farm, compost and soft plastics bin!
  • This ones for all the artsy students! Create posters and signs for your waste systems or even to encourage people to pick up their own waste!
