By using your own shopping bag, you are reducing the amount of plastic bags in landfills, and you can still go shopping, just with an environmentally friendly way of doing so.
If you have even been into a cafe, you might notice that takeaway cups for coffee, tea etc, are made of paper. Although they can be recycled, not all paper cups make it to the recycling, and instead end up in the landfill. Next time you go into a cafe, restaurant, or somewhere similar, bring your own reusable cup or mug. This way, your cup can be used the next time you go out for a drink, and it saves the amount of paper cups in the rubbish.
Instead of throwing away something which is broken, torn etc, try mending it yourself. If you have a shirt that is missing a button, sew one on yourself instead of throwing it out. This way, you can gain repairing skills and learn how to mend things, and you won't be throwing out as much items which can easily be repaired.
A compost bin is a great way to get rid of any food scraps without harming the environment. Instead of throwing any food scraps into the bin, you can throw them into the compost bin. Before getting a compost bin, make sure to find out what you can and can't put in, as not all food scraps are safe to be put in a compost bin.
Plastic water bottles make up most of landfill, along with plastic bags. Instead of buying plastic water bottles, you can buy reusable drink bottles. By doing this, you will be saving money, reducing plastic bottles in landfill and much more. You can buy reusable drink bottles from many places such as kmart, for a reasonable price.
